Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (Review)

Tobacco Vanille was released in 2007 from the renowned luxury brand Tom Ford. I bought a bottle of this superb scent 2 months ago to determine if it’s still relevant this year. For the next 2 minutes I’ll give you my honest opinion if I think that’s the case.

Cologne Notes

Tobacco Vanille is marketed as a spicy amber men’s fragrance. Additionally, the main accords are tobacco, spices, dried fruits, and vanilla.

How Does Tobacco Vanille Smell?

When first sprayed, I immediately smell the dried fruit accord coupled with a spicy vanilla note. The airy vanilla accord is excellent and maintains parity with the dried fruit – neither overpowers the other. Additionally, it’s a very comforting and cozy aroma, a deliberate balance of spice and sweetness.

As the scent develops, the fruity notes make way for the masculine tobacco accord which becomes more present as the scent dries on skin. Accompanying the tobacco is the vanilla and spices which stay throughout the life of the fragrance.

Overall, the cologne does not change significantly from opening to dry down. The tobacco comes to the forefront as the scent dries on your skin, evoking thoughts of refined maturity.

Although Tobacco Vanille doesn’t have many notes, the fragrance does smell complex and well blended.

Longevity and Projection

This is one of the better performing colognes from the Tom Ford private blend line. Therefore, it’s one of the few that I actually recommend to men. I find that it projects out from my skin for a few hours, and lasts about 8-10 hours total.

Occasions and Versatility

This is a fantastic special occasion and date night scent. It’s an excellent choice for those who like a balance of spicy sweetness, supported by a sophisticated backbone of tobacco.

When I smell Tobacco Vanille, I picture a suited gentleman drinking spirits at the bar, or a man aged 20+ sitting around the fireplace during the holiday season.

In my personal opinion this is one of the best private blends Tom Ford does. I love when a perfume “takes you somewhere”, and Tobacco Vanille takes me to a gentleman’s sitting room, with dark rosewood furniture, cigars and scotch being poured from decanters. The masculine vibes of tobacco and cognac and wood are balanced well with the vanilla.

Is Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Still Good This Year?

Update: After wearing this cologne a lot recently, I can say that YES, it’s definitely still good this year! This scent is just as relevant as it was when it was released over 10 years ago.
