Parfums de Marly Layton (Review): I LOVE IT

Layton is a men’s niche cologne by luxury fragrance house Parfums de Marly. It’s the most recognised scent from the brand, propelling the house to stardom in the fragrance industry. Personally, I’ve owned a bottle for years and worn it more times than I can count. In today’s review, I’m going to explain why I continue enjoying it after all this time.

Parfums de Marly Layton smells like spices, vanilla, fruits, and woods

When it comes to fragrance notes, there’s a lot going on here. The main notes include green apple, lavender, bergamot, pepper, cardamom, sandalwood and vanilla.

On first spray, I smell a lively opening duo of vanilla and apple. It’s sweet and bright, but not in a way that feels overwhelming.

Bright apple

Next, pepper and cardamom provide a spicy kick to keep the fragrance honest, bringing balance to the aroma. At this point, I also smell faint whiffs of bergamot which supports the apple to infuse freshness.

Layton impresses with its warm and smooth character. The aforementioned cardamom, coupled with lavender and sandalwood, are the reason why. The sandalwood in particular lays a creamy yet sturdy foundation which all other ingredients rely upon.

Warm cardamom

Once the fragrance dries down after a couple of hours, it mellows nicely. The spices are still there, as is the vanilla sweetness.

Overall, Layton possesses character that smells both unique and pleasant. It features designer-like appeal with all the quality of niche. Parfums de Marly have done an admirable job crafting a catalogue of accords to work harmoniously.

Sweet vanilla is prevalent throughout

Check out what this reviewer had to say:

Delicious. Very likeable. Warm, lightly spicy and very sweet but in a good way. Starts of fresh and turns into a lovely creamy soft and warm spicy vanilla. This is now my go to in winter when I need a pick me up. Definitely a people pleaser, not terribly sophisticated or chic but that isn’t always a vibe.

Top tier longevity and projection

The performance of Layton is excellent. There’s no point understating it – you get what you pay for here. This stuff just lasts all day.

In detail, it projects out from skin for 6 hours, before lasting for 6 more after that. Therefore, you’re looking at around 12 hours of total longevity.

With that said, do not overspray! You’ll unquestionably fill a room with your scent trail. I know you want to leave a lasting impact but 3 sprays is all you need fellas.

Very versatile

The versatility of Parfums de Marly Layton is respectable too. Its flexibility rivals popular designer scents like Bleu de Chanel EDP.

Daytime, night time, casual wear, and dates – it’s your choice. Just avoid spraying too much on hot days to prevent it cloying and becoming too strong.

Additionally, Layton is slightly too playful for dignified formal or office occasions. Try Tom Ford Grey Vetiver for those moments instead.

Lastly, this works best for guys in their early 20’s and up.

In Conclusion – Parfums de Marly Layton

This is a sweet oriental composition with fresh nuances thanks to a crisp green apple note. Pepper and cardamom add satisfying spiciness and warmth to the mix too.
