Paco Rabanne 1 Million Review: Still Worthy? (Yes)

Paco Rabanne 1 Million is a men’s cologne launched back in 2008. Since release, its popularity has soared due to a sweet, spicy aroma that appeals to many. However, it’s been out for over a decade and I’m often asked if it’s still worth buying. Although 1 Million is still impressive, there’s other options you must explore too. Read on for more.

Paco Rabanne 1 Million smells warm, spicy and sweet

Firstly, citrus notes of mandarin and grapefruit permeate off skin. They supply a juicy sweetness in the opening that’s bright and invigorating.

Parallel to this pairing I smell spiced cinnamon. Although listed as a middle note, it arrives very early and endures until the end. It presents an addictive lively warmth, contrasted with the sweetness.

Spicy cinnamon

There’s also a bracing backdrop of mint here. The result is a brisk cooling effect softly complementing the cinnamon.

Gradual withdrawal of the vibrant citruses incites two further developments:

  • A gentle rose accord floats in the background. Its airy attributes support the opening freshness, bringing balance; and
  • Amber introduces a lightly sweet and powdery quality, rounding the sharp spicy edges and remaining citrus.
Whiffs of warm, sweet amber

Leather and woods emerge once the scent dries on skin. The leather grants subtle richness whilst woods provide dry depth. These new notes are woven with lasting whiffs of the sweet amber and toned-down spiciness.

In summary, 1 Million begins as a modern citrus and spicy scent. As mandarin and grapefruit recede, its spiciness becomes nuanced. Rose and amber add breezy sweetness, followed by deeper aspects afterward.

Subtle leather in the base

Nevertheless, the composition never feels too intense. It maintains a playful feel despite the darkness revealed in the dry down. That’s especially apparent when compared against Azzaro Wanted by Night. It’s a similar fragrance that’s more thick and virile, leaning heavier on cinnamon and robust tobacco.

Have a look what this reviewer had to say about 1 Million:

I think it is a beautiful scent. Smells like bubblegum in the opening then transforms into something slightly darker. Overall it is very citrus/cinnamon/amber heavy throughout. But I think it is perfectly crafted.

Performance is decent, BUT

Early production batches of 1 Million featured god mode levels of projection and longevity.

Although that’s no longer the case, the scent still performs respectably.

Specifically, it projects moderately from skin for the first 2 hours, before lasting for about 6 more. Therefore, 8 hours of total longevity is expected.

Overall, I prefer the reduced performance. I don’t want this becoming thick and cloying on skin. The goal is to entice, not deter.

Laid back and flirty

Paco Rabanne fragrances are usually versatile and this release is no exception.

1 Million’s fun-loving nature lends well to casual occasions and dates. Unsurprisingly, it’s a winner when clubbing and bar-hopping too.

Seasonally, avoid wearing it during the hottest summer days – any other time is fine. Its warmth is suited to winter climates, whilst the fresher aspects are helpful in moderate to warmer temps.

Lastly, its youthful spirit won’t appeal to everyone. Mature guys should consider the highly rated Spicebomb Extreme.

In Conclusion – Paco Rabanne 1 Million
