5 Best YSL Cologne For Men in 2023 [Updated List]
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) is a popular designer brand that crafts sophisticated colognes for men. In today’s article I’m ranking my Top 5 YSL Cologne – working down to my top pick at #1. I’ve worn each of these many times and developed a sense of how they will add a refined edge to your image. Let’s take a look!
Two Honourable Mentions
- YSL Tuxedo – my favourite recent purchase for classy events and special occasions. I love it so much that it earned its own standalone detailed review here.
- YSL Bleu Electrique – one of YSL’s most recent flankers that has received tons of appreciation. I purchased a bottle recently and reviewed it here.
5. YSL La Nuit de L’Homme Le Parfum
Let’s kick the list off with YSL La Nuit de L’Homme Le Parfum.
This fragrance is a flanker of another on this list (spoiler!). It contains notes of bergamot, pepper, lavender, fruits, vanilla and patchouli.
The opening of this fragrance smells fresh and lively. On first spray, I witness the citrusy bergamot immediately. It dissipates quickly though, bringing forward spicy pepper and smooth lavender. Arriving soon thereafter is a touch of vanilla sweetness.
However, my favourite thing about this scent is the way the pepper blends comfortably with subtle fruity accords.
Like other YSL colognes, there is something mysterious yet dignified going on here. Something I can’t quite put my finger on.
This is a solid choice if you’re planning a night out or formal event. Additionally, it’s cold weather appropriate too.
4. YSL L’Homme
YSL L’Homme makes its way into the next spot. It’s undoubtedly one of the most recognizable colognes by the brand.
L’Homme is a woody floral musk aroma, featuring notes of ginger, spice, bergamot, violet, lemon and cedar.
In the opening I smell ginger and bergamot. It’s pleasantly airy and fresh. Then, woods and spices emerge as the scent develops into a warm and inviting composition.
This cologne smells natural – let me explain. I don’t observe many synthetic qualities here, which is respectable for the affordable price.
Furthermore, it has those dense and alluring characteristics that YSL is so well known for.
Its biggest strength is flexibility, wearable across all seasons. L’Homme is classy and sophisticated yet easy-going enough to be worn casually. I consider this an ‘easy reach’ scent, essential when you simply want to smell good.
3. YSL L’Homme Ultime
YSL L’Homme Ultime comes in at #3 on my list. Ultime is a criminally underrated and underappreciated scent. It’s a flanker of L’Homme and surpasses the lofty heights set by the original.
Some of the main notes I detect include ginger, cedar, grapefruit, cardamom, sage and rose. An expansive and complex scent profile, no doubt about it.
The ginger and grapefruit contribute a gin and tonic vibe to the aroma. The citrus notes provide freshness whilst spices and cedar introduce a masculine, smooth backbone.
Like many on this list, YSL L’Homme Ultime is a safe blind buy. It’s hard to hate and easy to love.
It’s not often that flankers eclipse originals but YSL have done just that.
2. YSL La Nuit de L’Homme
The classic popular masterpiece La Nuit de L’Homme comes in at #2 on my list.
This is one of the most distinguished fragrances in the history of men’s cologne. Consequently, YSL’s credibility in the fragrance world rose after its release.
When I spray it on skin I smell an intricate blend of spice, lavender, cedar and bergamot. These notes combine to elicit an aroma that smells fresh, calming, and sweetly creamy.
It also evokes dark, sensual, and masculine energy.
Although it works better as an evening scent, don’t let this restrict you. However, it’s most suitable for date nights, formal events or office wear.
La Nuit de L’Homme is a timeless fragrance that will never go out of style.
My Favourite YSL Cologne – Y EDP
YSL Y EDP takes the the top spot on my list.
Without a doubt, Y EDP is my favourite cologne from Yves Saint Laurent – so far. It was first released in 2018 and seen as a beloved scent by many.
Some ingredients I smell include apple, ginger, sage, amberwood, bergamot and juniper berries.
Think such a composition would smell fresh yet classy? You’d be right.
YSL retains a clever ability to make freshness and class predominant features of its colognes.
However, the scent structure isn’t even Y EDP’s strongest attribute. Its versatility is off the charts.
Y EDP is a true all-season, all-occasion aroma . Much like L’Homme, Y EDP is also a comfortably easy reach. You can wear this in formal situations, casual situations, hot weather, cold weather – the choice is yours.
Y EDP should be your first stop when looking to introduce a YSL cologne to your wardrobe.
