PDM Haltane review: Fit For A King? [Answered]

Parfums De Marly (PDM) reigns itself as one of the most influential niche houses in the fragrance market today. Their newest release captures exactly why they are the best. PDM Haltane is the latest collaborative release with Harrods, one of the world’s leading luxury department stores in the UK. This opulent juice comes in an embossed green and gold bottle, something truly fit for a king.

What does PDM Haltane smell like?

Haltane’s scent profile has a striking resemblance to Initio’s Oud For Greatness (OFG) which boasts itself atop of notes of oud, saffron, nutmeg and patchouli. Those with a refined nose however will detect that Haltane is unique in its own right and is not, I repeat…is NOT a clone of OFG.

As you apply the fragrance, you are met with an array of of warm, spicy and woody notes. I instantly feel a rush of excitement as the sensory experience permeating through my nose unfolds.

Florals of clary sage, lavender and bergamot create a fresh, green opening. On the basis of just the opening, I am instantly reminded of the forest green colour of the bottle as it surfaces to my mind.

As the scent develops into the mid, the saffron and praline begin to surface and intermingle with the base notes of oud and cedar. This is where the fragrance really shines through and goes on for hours on end.

Comparable fragrances such as Dior Sauvage Elixir and Amouage Epic Man are similar. They lean heavily on woods and spices and latch heavily onto the skin. If you are interested in this type of perfumery, go check these two out.

Longevity, Projection & Versatility

The longevity of Haltane is incredible at a whopping 12+ hours, you will still be able to detect this on your skin the next day. Funny story actually….I sampled Haltane on a test strip and could still smell it clearly after 4 days!!! If that isn’t mammoth performance, I don’t know what is!

The projection is very good on my skin but it doesn’t radiate as beastly as OFG. In actual fact, this is one of the main reasons I chose to purchase a bottle of Haltane. It wasn’t so bold to the point of choking those around me before I even entered the room.

Don’t get me wrong, I love OFG but after sampling Haltane on multiple occasions, I found it to be much more wearable and versatile, particularly during the daytime. For a spicy, woody and sweet fragrance such as Haltane, I believe you will get the best wear on cooler days, day or night.

I do caution you though, don’t go too trigger happy on this one or you may literally become intoxicating. Three to five sprays should be plenty for optimal wear.

The Harrods x Parfum’s De Marly collaboration on Haltane is something truly unique. It is unlike any of the other fragrances in the PDM line. It has attitude, character and class but is also warm and inviting at the same time.

This is a fragrance for someone who appreciates and enjoys wearing middle-eastern type perfumery. I believe this is a fragrance best suited for a mature man who is poised and can balance assertive qualities with a calm yet inviting demeanor.
