The new Gentleman Society Ambree is phenomenal (my review)
How does Gentleman Society Ambree smell?
Let’s go over the notes first. Society Ambree contains clary sage, nutmeg, vetiver, iris, narcissus, tobacco, vanilla, and a balsamic accord.
The Opening:
The scent begins with a clary sage and nutmeg smell. The sage smells sweet and aromatic, whilst the nutmeg gives off a sense of warmth.
Furthermore, I pick up small whiffs of tobacco. The tobacco is an entirely new addition specific to Ambree. It’s like a dry, pipe tobacco-type of aroma.
Together, these opening 3 notes set a relaxed, masculine and classy vibe.
The Mid:
Afterwards, the vetiver and iris become noticeable. Simultaneously, the sage starts fading away.
Vetiver adds a woody refined edge – an ingredient that’s become synonymous with Givenchy’s Society line. Additionally, the iris emanates a very slight floral powdery texture.
Also, there’s some narcissus, a floral that has rich and heady qualities.
The Dry Down:
In the dry down I still catch whiffs of the earlier accords, notably tobacco.
However, I now detect the balsamic note, which makes the composition more resinous.
Lastly, there’s Madagascan vanilla which provides sweet balance. It blends seamlessly after the earlier sweetness peels away.
Overall, Givenchy have stepped up their game with Gentleman Society Ambree.
This cologne takes the core, sophisticated Society DNA and enhances it with complexity and attitude. The additions of tobacco and balsamic facets are a masterstroke.
It smells smooth, sweet, and resinous – but the aromatic edge prevents it from getting too heavy.

It’s a deep, dark, dense, rich woody scent that’s also warm and spicy. Also smells maybe slightly dusty, like a hint of wood shavings. There’s a nice sweetness mixed in as well.
The hype is real on this one. I’ve got a sample first and then bought a full bottle after the first wearing. It just has the right amount of everything.
How versatile and strong is it?
Ambree is pretty versatile. It’s Winter here in Australia and it’s better suited to these cooler conditions. However you could pull this off in moderate temperatures too. Here’s where I’ve been wearing it:
- The office: Ambree screams sophistication so I’ve been wearing it with a suit and coat. It’ll work for any corporate or business event.
- Dates: if you like to scrub up for a romantic rendezvous, this one’s a winner. I wore it on a daytime coffee date, and I’ll wear it on my next evening catchup too.
- Everyday wear in cooler weather: Adds a touch of elegance to errand running, appointments or social engagements.
Overall, it covers a similar set of circumstances to the 2025 Dior Homme Parfum.
As for strength? It’s impressive. From my testing this is the strongest Givenchy Gentleman Society release thus far.
On skin, I get moderate projection for the first 4 hours, before gradually softening into a skin scent. All up, the total longevity is around 10 hours.
Final thoughts on Gentleman Society Ambree
In conclusion, Givenchy Gentleman Society Ambree is the best Givenchy release since Gentleman Reserve Privee.
Ambree does a fantastic job building upon the foundational sweet, aromatic, vetiver Society DNA. It infuses tobacco and peru balsam – which gives depth, sophistication, and niche-like quality.
But what’s even more impressive? Despite the additions, it doesn’t sacrifice versatility, longevity, or sillage.
A big return to form by Givenchy. Let’s hope they keep it going for the next one.
